Resumen

Introduction: Cerebrovascular accident (CVA), classified as ischemic (iCVA) or hemorrhagic (hCVA), is a brain injury with rapid clinical development with focal and/or global disturbances of brain function, with symptoms lasting 24 hours or more. hours. Objective: To investigate the perception of post-stroke individuals about their functionality and incapacity in daily life tasks. Methodology: Cross-sectional, qualitative observational study, developed according to the phases: (1) Sociodemographic questionnaire; (2) Semi-structured interview; (3) Voice recording of interviews; (4) Transcriptions of the recordings in full and (5) content analysis. The sample, recruited for convenience, is made up of subjects affected by a stroke undergoing treatment at a Specialized Rehabilitation Center in the interior of Paraíba. Results: Ten subjects participated in the research, eight men and two women, average age 62.5 years. Five subjects were affected by stroke, three by stroke and two were unable to respond. Everyone reported difficulties in carrying out daily tasks after the diagnosis. Conclusion: The sequelae left by the stroke affected the quality of life of these subjects, especially in tasks such as dressing, bathing, eating and walking, equiring some type of assistance, however, the rehabilitation treatment promoted improvement in the entire sample.
